Fun, free choose your own adventure tour of private food-based gardens in Swissvale, PA. Register to enter a garden gift basket raffle!* Join us for the 4th annual Swissvale Edible Garden Tour! This fun, free community event will be on Saturday, July 23, 2022. No registration necessary, but if you register here you'll be entered to win a gardening-themed gift basket!*10:00AM-2:00PM: Open Gardens (private gardens all over Swissvale) - see how Swissvalians grow food (and more) and meet the gardeners. 2:00PM-4:30PM: Community Picnic (Swissvale Community Garden) - Gardening-themed gift basket prize drawn at 3 PM* The choose-your-own adventure style tour will include gardens throughout the borough, including the spaces of newer, experienced, and more experimental gardeners. Visitors can expect to see a diverse array of edible garden features such as urban chickens, fruit trees, and pollinators. Attendees to the tour will stop at info tables to pick up a guide and are then welcome to visit as many gardens as they like, in whichever order they choose. After Open Gardens, join us to celebrate this year's event at a community picnic! We'll be at the Swissvale Community Garden with food and activities from 2PM-4:30PM. Through this free, community-wide event, we hope to showcase Swissvale as a great place to garden, visit, and live. We are also seeking to promote the real and tangible benefits of gardening; gardening beautifies and connects community, promotes physical and mental wellbeing, and has far-reaching ecological benefits. We hope to build confidence in newer gardeners and inspire young people to get their hands dirty and get growing. Now in its fourth year, the Swissvale Edible Garden Tour is a project of the Swissvale Community Action Committee (SCAC), supporting the Swissvale Community Garden (located at the corner of Collingwood and Denniston Aves.) SCAC is comprised of impassioned residents of the Borough of Swissvale. The mission of SCAC is to connect Swissvalians to create a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable community.
