WAYLAND, MA — Here's what's happening at the Wayland Free Library the week of April 11. ADULT SERVICES In Pieces: Explorations of Climate Change In this creative workshop for adults and young adults, we will use art materials to explore twovisions of our world: one of grief and uncertainty, and the other of joy, gratitude, and beauty.We will do this on Zoom, but together. No art experience needed, just paper or canvas, scissors,and your favorite medium. Led by Kaat Vander Straeten and a co-facilitator. Monday, April 25 at 7 p.m. Author Talk: Evan Hadingham Wayland resident Evan Hadingham's new book, Discovering Us, brings our shared history tolife, telling the stories behind fifty of the most important human origins discoveries ever made.Published in collaboration with the Leakey Foundation, it celebrates science and the search forwhat it means to be human. Evan is the Senior Science Editor of the PBS NOVA seriesproduced at WGBH, Boston. He has an MA in prehistory and archaeology from the Universityof Sheffield. Register through our Events menu. Tuesday, April 26 at 7 pm. Write Letters and Swap Stationery April is National Card & Letter Writing Month. Stop by the Raytheon Room for some good old-fashioned letter-writing time. Bring your unused stationery to swap, use the blank cards we'llprovide, or make your own using our supplies. One postage stamp provided to the first 20attendees. No registration required. Bring your stationery donations to the event or drop themoff at the Reference Desk between Saturday 4/9-Thursday 4/14. Leftover stationery will bedonated, recycled, or repurposed for Library programs. Thursday, April 14, 3-5 p.m. Poetry on the Trail For National Poetry Month, the Wayland Cultural Council, in partnership with the Library, theSudbury Valley Trustees, and the Wayland Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and InclusionCommittee, is excited to be sharing eight poems posted along on the trails at GreenwaysConservation Area. Written by a diverse group of poets, they share a theme of spring, renewal,and rebirth. Look for them on SVT segments of the trails, marked on a map you can pick up atthe Library. The parking area for Greenways is at the bottom of Green Way off Cochituate Road.Enjoy the woods and the words. Attention, Wayland Residents of Chinese Heritage Whether your family hails from China, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States, or anywhere else,we want to document your experience living in Wayland. We want all Wayland residents,whether next year or a hundred years from now, to hear your voices. We will keep your answersin our historical collection for future generations. This survey will be anonymous in order toencourage candid answers to the questions. You'll find it on the blog at waylandlibrary.org. Sewing Machine We have a beautiful new Singer M2100, just waiting for you to check it out from our Library ofThings. It's lightweight and portable—great for sewing in smaller spaces or for taking to sewingclass. There are 63 stitch applications, all with preset stitch length and width, eliminatingguesswork. The front-loading bobbin, easy threading, and four-step buttonhole process alsomake it perfect for the beginner. There's even an app to help you along. 3D Printing Videos Even though the classes are temporarily suspended, our tech maven, Tyler Kenney, has beenbusy producing and posting a series of excellent tutorials showing you how to print a number offun and fascinating objects.
