WATSONVILLE, CA — The family of 18-year-old Feliciano Martinez Perea, who was shot and killed in Watsonville April 2, describes the teen as a gentle and private person, the Pajaronian reported. Perea was shot outside of an apartment complex after two males followed him and confronted him, leading to a brief fight before both males shot at Perea, police said. The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. on the 100 block of Riverside Drive. Police reported April 4 that Perea had died. A video released by police the next day showed a clear image of the suspects and the vehicle they got into after the shooting. Perea was a farmworker who moved to the area about a year ago from Mexico to work in strawberry fields and send money to his family, the paper reported. "He was not in a gang; this has nothing to do with him being in a gang," a young woman who remained anonymous told the paper. The shooting marks the first homicide in Watsonville in 2022.
