Description

Press release from the City of Austin: April 7, 2022 Roy Kizer Golf Course will be Closed April 11–August 1 for Renovations. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department's Golf Division is preparing for a full greens renovation at Roy Kizer Golf Course in order to return the surfaces to the proper United States Golf Association greens specifications. The renovation project will be conducted in two phases with a full closure on April 11, 2022, and an anticipated re-opening on August 1, 2022. Please note that these construction dates are weather dependent, and therefore approximate. Roy Kizer Golf Course was built in 1994 and has remained in constant operation since the opening. Golf course greens require rebuilding every 25–30 years due to mutations in the grass, general contaminants in the soil and often unlevel surfaces. In phase one of the project, the contractor will remove all contaminants, return the green's subgrade to USGA specifications, and plant new grass in the form of sprigs. After planting, the Golf Division staff will oversee phase two of the project, which will consist of the grow-in process and turf grooming for re-opening. To ensure that our patrons have the opportunity to play, the Golf Division will maximize tee time availability at the Department's other golf courses including Jimmy Clay, Morris Williams, Lions Municipal, Hancock, and Grey Rock Golf Courses as well as Butler Pitch and Putt.
