Press release from the Missoula County Government: April 5, 2022 Polling places will not be open on Election Day. All active and provisionally registered voters will receive a ballot after they're mailed Wednesday, April 13. Ballots are due back to the Elections Office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. Postmarks are not sufficient. "Return postage is paid," Elections Administrator Bradley Seaman said. "Voters can simply return their completed ballot in any mailbox or hand deliver it to the Elections Office." The Elections Office reminds residents that regular voter registration is closed. Late registration is available through noon Monday, May 2. During late registration, any changes to voter registration must take place in-person at the Elections Center. All voter services will be provided in the green warehouse on the east side of the Elections Center at 140 N. Russell St. Due to recent changes in state law, Missoula County residents who are not registered to vote must complete their registration prior to noon the day before the election. Registered voters can make certain changes to registration on Election Day. Voters may still replace an absentee ballot or pick up an undeliverable ballot on Election Day at the Elections Center. Residents do not have to show their picture IDs when they register, but they must provide their Montana driver's license or Montana ID number. If residents do not have a Montana driver's license, they will need to provide the last four digits of their Social Security number. If they do not have either number, they will need to provide another form of identification. Residents also need to provide a residence address or specific geographic location from which their residence address may be determined. The residence address must be in the county in which they are registering. School and special district elections are held annually and administered by the Elections Office. School district trustees are elected for a term of three years or the remainder of vacant terms. The board of elected trustees authorizes additional taxation, the issuance of bonds or any other proposition presented to the electors in accordance with MCA 20-20-102. Special district trustees are elected board members who serve the registered voters of a specific tax districts, such as fire, public hospital, water, sewer, irrigation or conservation districts listed on property owners' tax bill. These districts operate in accordance with MCA 7-11--1002, 7-12-4102 and 7-33-21. Common voter questions are online at www.missoulavotes.com.
