Press release from the Village of Palatine: The Village of Palatine has received a 2022 Tree City USA Growth Award by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Village of Palatine has earned recognition as a Tree City USA community for the past 36 years, and has received the Growth Award for the past eight years. The Tree City USA Growth Award is presented to participating Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year. The Growth Award recognizes major milestones and annual activities in five categories that combine to focus on building sustainable, long term community forestry programs. The Arbor Day Foundation has coordinated the Tree City USA program since 1976, with a goal of providing the necessary framework for communities to manage and expand public trees. To achieve Tree City USA status, communities must meet four core standards: maintaining a tree board or department; having a tree ordinance; spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry; and celebrating Arbor Day.
