CHICAGO, IL — An Orland Park woman is facing a hate crime charge after prosecutors said she threw a drink at a Chicago bartender for wearing a Star of David necklace. Sara Abdulrasoul, a 30-year-0ld pharmacist based in Orland Park, appeared in court Wednesday. There, prosecutors said the woman was visiting The Underground Chicago, a dance club at 56 West Illinois Street, on Nov. 7 when she confronted a 28-year-old bartender and called the worker a "ho." According to prosecutors, police said the Abdulrasoul instructed the bartender to take their necklace with the Star of David — a well-known symbol of Judaism — off. Police said the woman became angry with the bartender, alleging the bartender's "people" were killing her "people." Prosecutors said the bartender attempted to apologize to Abdulrasoul, who they assumed was Palestinian. The woman then threw a full drink cup at the bartender, hitting them in the chest while stating she "hates Jews." Abdulrasoul turned herself into the police on Tuesday, lawyers said. Charges in the incident were first reported on by CWB Chicago. Judge Susana Ortiz released Abdulrasoul on her own recognizance pending her April 13 court date. Ortiz advised Abdulrasoul not to drink or take drugs while the legal process played out. As of Friday, The Underground Chicago did not respond to Patch's request for comment.
