The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
On March 29, 2022, just after 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 8700 block of Graves Ave. in the City of Santee for a medical aid. Fire department personnel were providing medical aid to a twenty-four-year-old woman. The woman was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. The name of the victim is known to investigators, however her name will not be released due to investigative reasons.
Sheriff's Homicide detectives continued their investigation and identified twenty-six-year-old Brandi McCrystal, as the suspect in the assault of the woman. On March 30, 2022, just before 6:00 p.m., McCrystal was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Re-Entry Facility for 273.5(a) PC – Felony Domestic Violence.
McCrystal lives with the victim and they are in a cohabiting domestic relationship.
The circumstances and motivation for this crime is currently under investigation.
