JOLIET, IL — The skeletal remains found Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of West Laraway Road along the banks of Des Plaines River are not from a human, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English announced Friday afternoon.
English said the bones were examined by an anthropologist at the University of Illinois. Joliet police learned on Friday that the examination revealed the skeletal remains are of an animal.
Around 8:30 a.m. on April 5, Joliet officers responded to Zenith Energy Terminals for the discovery of possible human remains along the south bank of the Des Plaines River. Officers determined that the remains appeared to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
Joliet police said at the time that evidence found at the scene suggested the remains may be of human origin. The remains were located by workers in the area, who then called 911. Representatives from the Will County Coroner's Office were called to the scene to collect the remains.
