MAPLE GROVE, MN — The Maple Grove Police Department is sending more than 100 pieces of gear to Ukrainians defending against Russia's ongoing invasion of their country.
The Maple Grove City Council unanimously approved a measure last month that will see the department donate vests and helmets to the "defenders of Ukraine."

The Maple Grove Police Department will send 58 patrol vests, 31 riot helmets, 12 SWAT ballistic helmets and seven SWAT vests, Chief Eric Werner said in a memo to the City Council.
The National Guard is conducting a nationwide drive seeking surplus or expired body armor, helmets and other gear, with the Minnesota State Patrol coordinating gear pickups.

All gear will be collected at the Camp Ripley Training Center to be shipped to Ukraine, according to a memo from the Minnesota National Guard.
