OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City School District students will physically attend class two full days each week unless they opt for the full-time Virtual Academy. Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Taylor released a quick guide Thursday on its plan for reopening this fall. The district will separate students into Cohorts O, C and V. Cohort V represents families who opt for their students to learn completely virtually. Cohort O will attend school Mondays and Tuesdays and learn remotely Thursdays and Fridays. Cohort C will participate in virtual education Mondays and Tuesdays and attend in-person classes Thursday and Friday. School reopens Sept. 8. The district is in the process of getting state approval for the plan and will release more details once officials allow it to proceed, according to a public relations manager for the district. As it stands, schools will require students and staff to wear face coverings throughout the school day unless accommodations are necessary. Officials suggest that younger students practice wearing a face mask for extended periods now. Schools will require daily health screenings for students and staff. They will be asked to wash their hands frequently and will have routine hand-washing breaks throughout the day. Everyone must practice social distancing.
