NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ — A woman drowned Tuesday after trying to save her three kids off North Wildwood, officials said. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, who is from Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Officials received a 911 call at 2:56 p.m. Tuesday about four swimmers in distress off 18th Street Beach. Crews rescued a 19-year-old woman and boys ages 8 and 10.
But they found the 49-year-old woman face down about 150 yards out, according to the North Wildwood Fire Department. Officials conducted lifesaving measures and took her to Cape Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
A North Wildwood Fire ambulance took the three remaining victims to the same hospital for evaluation.
This is a developing story.
