GAITHERSBURG, MD — Unofficial results from the Nov. 5 election show that incumbents Neil Harris, Ryan Spiegel, and Robert Wu have been reelected to the Gaithersburg City Council. The results are expected to be certified by the Gaithersburg Board of Supervisors of Elections on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Once certified, the newly elected officials will be sworn in at City Hall on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. They will each serve a four-year term. City officials say 2,249 voters cast ballots at the polls, out of 36,526 registered voters, or 6.16 percent. Voter turnout in the 2017 City of Gaithersburg election for mayor and three City Council members was 9.29 percent. According to unofficial election totals: Harris received 1,566 votesSpiegel received 1,555 votesWu received 1,901 votesThis was the first election cycle in which the city write-in candidates to run in the race. The three write-in candidates who ran were Carol Johnson, Juan Aguirre, and Nicole S. Ukiteyedi. Combined, they received 1,104 votes.
