TEDxUMiami combines TED Talk videos and live presenters with local entrepreneurs and organizations for a day where “ideas are spread.” Born in 1984, TED began as a conference for bringing people together from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Today, TED is a platform and global movement focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas. In the spirit of TED arose TEDx—a program designed to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at their local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. The University of Miami is a renowned top 50 University located in Miami, Florida. Founded in 1925, the University of Miami has always stood for education above everything, and this carries through with the TEDx Program. The theme of TEDxUMiami is What’s Next? – a ruminative call for contemplation through examining our current reality, reflecting on our experiences, and culminating in our collective rebirth. This becomes especially important as we transition to a post-COVID-19 world, where we retire from isolation, greet our previous routines, and consider entering this new era in a light of positive change, innovative renewal, and personal rejuvenation. The lives and goals of our communities starkly differ and the future remains unclear; as we journey to return to a place with infinite possibilities, there exists an array of ideas worth spreading, that have yet to be explored.
