Discover, enjoy, and record the wild things on beautiful Cerrito Creek at the foot of Albany Hill.
All ages welcome to enjoy and record the wild things, and savor late spring, at the wonderful urban oasis of Cerrito Creek at the foot of Albany Hill. Families with young children can use our creekside scavenger hunt. The energetic can climb 338-foot Albany Hill -- we'll have maps and info. Others can take a loosely guided creekside stroll, looking for native plants, birds, and butterflies and learning the basics of using free apps that help you identify what you see and hear in the outdoors.
Attendance is limited -- groups will be small.
This even is part of City Nature Challenge, an informal international competition is based on the free INaturalist app developed by grad students right here in the Bay area.
From Sat., Apr. 29, to Tues., May 2, you can use the app to observe plants and animals (of all sizes) around homes, neighborhoods, and cities. From May 3 to May 8, experts will help identify what you upload. A "winning" city will be announced May 9. Your observations also will help F5C record changes that may result from drought or climate change.
