Poetry Night Out with Mrs. Ganelle Sutton of the Young Authors' Club
We are calling 12 enthusiastic young people in grades 2nd through 5th to come out for a fun night of poetry! There's no writing...this time...and no super "hard" work. This is a night dedicated to appreciating poetry and realizing that figurative language and poetic devices are EVERYWHERE!
Your child will learn how to identify and interpret figurative language. They will bring their favorite song to Poetry Night either by printing the lyrics, bringing it on a device, or putting in the provided space during registration here so that the lyrics can be ready. We will then allow them to see the amazing poetic devices in their favorite songs they never realized were there! We will read and memorize, in groups, three short poems by three of the world's best poets: Langston Hughes, Robert Frost, and Tupac Shakur. Yes, Tupac was a poet as well and we will focus solely on his poem, "The Rose that Grew from Concrete." We will then end with a craft the kids will be able to take home! This workshop is around dinner time so refreshments will be provided!
