A week of interactive, sustainability focused events to celebrate Earth Day! Circular Economy at Carolina: Clothing Swap + Free Market Date: Monday, April 18th Time: 9am - 5pm Location: In front of McColl Net Impact in partnership with CWIB and Pride Club, is excited to present the big Kenan-Flagler Clothing Swap + Free Market. Students and faculty are encouraged to donate gently used wanted clothing/shoes/accessories and exchange them with other donated goods. If students do not have items to contribute, they are still encouraged to shop at the Free Store - it is open to everyone! The goal is to encourage reuse! Key Details about the Clothing Swap/Free Market: Students/faculty are not required to donate items to shop at the free. Students/faculty that donate items will not get those items back at the end of the event, all remaining items will be donated to local thrift store, Community Worx.Donations will be collected the week prior to the event (there will collection bins in the lobby) AND on the day of the eventLunchtime Learning: Composting + Recycling Demonstration Date: Tuesday, April 19th Time: 12:30-2pm Location: In front of McColl Join us in front of McColl to learn about to how compost and recycle! We will have interactive demonstrations as well as interactive activities. Interactive activities will include t-shirt tote bages and free plants + pot decorating (using compost. Lunchtime Learning: Guest Speaker - Dr. Alice Ammerman - Founder and CEO of Good Bowls Date: Wednesday, April 20th Time: 12:30pm - 1:45pm Location: Room TBD Join us to learn from Dr. Alice Ammerman, the founder and CEO of Good Bowls. After years of research about the food system, food insecurity, and how to prevent chronic disease (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity) nutrition professor Dr. Alice Ammerman founded Equiti Foods. Our first product is Good Bowls – healthy frozen meals based on the Mediterranean diet and locally sourced food. Following the presentation, there will be taste testing! Netflix and Chill: Documentary Screening of "Brave Blue World" + Snacks! Date: Thursday, April 21st Time: 12:30pm - 1:45pm Location: Room Join us to watch the provocative documentary, Brave Blue World . This short documentary is focused on highlight potential innovations and solutions to solve and address our worlds looming water crisis. We encourage you to bring your lunch, light snacks will be provided. Community Service Projects: Habitat for Humanity + Peewee Homes Date: Friday, April 22nd Times: 8am - 12pm (Habitat for Humanity) AND 2pm - 4pm (Pee Wee Homes) Locations: Odie Build in Hillsborough (Habitat for Humanity) AND The Church of the Advocate in Chapel Hill (Pee Wee Homes) Join us to give back to our local community by participated in one (or both) of our community service projects. Net Impact is excited to be partnering with MBASA Community Service, Habitat for Humanity, and Pee Wee Homes. The Projects: Home building with Habitat for Humanity (8am - 12pm)Garden Building Project with Pee Wee Homes (2pm - 4pm)**IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE YOU MUST SIGN-UP BY FRIDAY, APRIL 15TH USING THE LINKS BELOW** Habitat for HumanityPee Wee HomeCarolina Connects: Community Hike + Field Trip at the NC Botanical Gardens Date: Saturday, April 23rd Time: 10am - 12pm Location: NC Bontanical Gardens - 100 Old Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517 We hope that you can join us to continue celebrating Earth Day by participating in a casual community hike. The NC Botanical Garden have numerous beautiful walking trails as well as lovely gardens to explore. The NC Botanical Garden is a conservation garden and home to many rare plant species. The Education/ Visitor Center is Leed Certified and powered by geothermal energy. They also sell lovely plants on site!
