NEWTON, MA — An old bank at 1175 Walnut Street in Newton is being transformed into "The Vault," a new space for community use, reported WBZ-TV. The project is being led by Rev. Devlin Scott of New City Church, who plans to not only use the space for his Sunday service, but also for various other community offerings on the other six days of the week. Monday through Saturday, the multi-use space will serve the community's underserved populations with a "pay-what-you-can" community cafe to address food insecurities and a play place specifically designed for children with special needs. In addition, the building holds a fifty-seat black box theater and an outdoor mural with a paint by numbers volunteer project to facilitate education and appreciation of the arts. The theatre is open now and the café will be open in the fall. The space is run by a nonprofit, non-religious organization started by Scott called New Community Inc.
