MEDFORD, MA – A suspect is in custody in the deadly Thursday evening outside the Cambridge District Courthouse in Medford, according to authorities.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Medford Chief of Police Jack Buckley confirmed that a preliminary investigation indicates that the parties involved, two adult males, were known to each other.
In a WCVB news report, William Barabino, the attorney who represented the person accused of shooting the man on an unrelated charge, said that his client had taken out a restraining order against his nephew several years earlier, and Thursday's court proceeding was to renew the order.
Barbarino said that restraining order was not renewed in a court hearing earlier that afternoon.
According to Barbarino, following the judge's ruling, the uncle struck the nephew with a vehicle, then shot him multiple times, killing him. The body was found next to the vehicle.
Brabarino added that both his client and the man's nephew are from China.
The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. outside the Cambridge District Courthouse located on Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford.
The investigation is ongoing, and Ryan is expected to speak at a press conference later Thursday evening.
