NEWTOWN, CT — The driver and passenger were injured in a one-vehicle crash on March 31 on South Main Street in Newtown, according to police. The passenger, an 82-year-old Brookfield woman, suffered injuries that police said could be serious, and she was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Police said the driver, an 80-year-old Brookfield man, did not show signs of injury, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation. According to Newtown police, the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. when the driver, who was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Trax crossover, crossed over into the southbound lane, struck a curb, then hit a fire hydrant, and finally came to a stop after colliding with a tree. Police issued a verbal warning to the driver for failure to driver in the proper lane.
