Description
Press release from Hamden Public Library:
April 7, 2022
As children, we are given picture books filled with images of large mammals. Less often we learn the names of the scraggly trees, messy shrubs and expansive grasses that support the elephants, rhinos, moose, and elk. The plants that grow in grasslands, savannas and shrublands are their primary food source. How does a changing climate affect the base of the food chain? What does that mean for the animals that live there? And what steps can we take to defend these systems? Find out by joining us on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 6:30 pm for a free virtual presentation titled, "Supporting Giants: Grasslands, Savannas, Shrublands and their Future under a Changing Climate."
This talk is scheduled in connection with this year's Earth Day theme: "Invest in Our Planet." The presenter is Scott Carpenter, a PhD candidate at the Yale School of the Environment. His research focuses on how climate change for plants also effects livestock and wildlife. This program is presented by the Hamden Public Library in cooperation with the Yale Peabody Museum Speakers Bureau. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Register online at www.hamdenlibrary.org (click on "Programs") or call 203-287-2680. After signing up, you will receive a Zoom meeting link by email.
