Stolen Jeep Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Bushes: Paramus Police

PARAMUS, NJ — Police in Paramus arrested a 19-year-old Essex County man on Thursday morning for driving a stolen vehicle, Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Officer Nicholas Tanelli saw a white Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding on Route 17 southbound at 1:46 a.m. Thursday, Ehrenberg said in a news release. An officer tried to catch up with the vehicle and the driver turned off the lights and got onto Route 4 westbound, the news release says. The Jeep hit a median and kept going west, Ehrenberg said. Tanelli checked the vehicle and found out it had been stolen from Mountain Lakes, in Morris County,Ehrenberg said. Tanelli had to stop chasing the car because of state guidelines, the news release said. Tanelli and Officer Michael Cleary saw the same Jeep some time later speeding south on Paramus Road, Ehrenberg said. The suspect hit a curb while trying to get onto the Garden State Parkway from Paramus Road, Ehrenberg said. The Jeep hit some bushes and a tree, and the driver and a passenger got out and ran away, the news release said. Tanelli and Cleary caught the driver on a nearby street and the passenger escaped, according to Ehrenberg. Marvin Louine, 19, of Orange faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police, Ehrenberg's report says. He was booked at Paramus Police Headquarters and released on his own recognizance, Ehrenberg said.
