GRANBURY, TX — A Texas middle school teacher has resigned after she covered a student's hands in hand sanitizer and lit them on fire as part of an experiment — burning him, according to police.
The 37-year-old teacher at Granbury Middle School had conducted the experiment on multiple students during the day before the 12-year-old male student was burned, a Granbury Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Patch. The boy suffered possible third-degree burns on his hands, and his condition is unknown.
Granbury police are still conducting their investigation, which will be submitted to the Hood County District Attorney's Office.
The teacher resigned and is no longer a school district employee, Granbury ISD officials said Tuesday.
Granbury is the county seat of Hood County and has a population of nearly 11,000 people. It is around 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
