Press release from the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce: April 6, 2022 Crews will begin construction on 8th Street in West Des Moines by installing new storm sewer crossings along the project from north to south. This work will require temporary closures to through traffic one block at a time, but residents will still be able to access their driveways during this work. The first block impacted will be from Vine Street to Locust Street, and that work will begin on Monday, April 11. When this segment reopens, the contractor will move to the next block to the south and repeat the process until they have completed all the storm sewer work. When the storm sewer work is finished (approximately early June), the roadway will be completely closed two blocks at a time (moving south to north) to remove and reconstruct the street.
