Press release from the City of Knoxville - Blog: April 4, 2022 The Knoxville Police Department Violent Crimes Unit is investigating after a four-year-old girl was struck and injured by what is believed to be a stray bullet early Sunday morning. At around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, KPD officers responded to a home in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, where a four-year-old had been struck by a bullet that had come into an upstairs window. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Based on the findings of the investigation, at this time it is not believed that the home was targeted and it is believed that the bullet that struck the victim was possibly a stray round from a nearby shooting. It is unknown at this time where the bullet originated. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
