SAN FRANCISCO — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive for COVID-19 a day after she appeared unmasked at a White House event with President Joe Biden. Pelosi, 82, was asymptomatic Thursday morning, her spokesman Drew Hammill tweeted Thursday. She tested negative earlier this week. "The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided," Hammill said. Pelosi will "quarantine consistent with CDC guidance, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted and test regularly," he said. The news comes ahead of her weekly news appearance on Capitol Hill. The House is set to start a two-week spring recess. Pelosi, who represents the 12th District of California in San Francisco, postponed a reported planned trip to Taiwan this weekend in light of the test, Hammill said. Pelosi is just the latest official to test positive for COVID-19 this week. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday after attending the high-profile Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, D.C., Axios reported. Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff of California and Joaquín Castro of Texas tested positive after attending the dinner Saturday. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
