3-Month-Old NJ Puppy Was Set On Fire, Rescue Group Says

OAKLAND, NJ — A 3-month-old puppy needs help after he was set on fire a week ago, a Bergen County animal rescue group said. Tyler was being cared for by a good Samaritan who tried caring for him for a week, but the pit bull got worse. His caregiver took him to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland Sunday night for help. "This one has disturbed me to my core," said Megan Brinster, the refuge's executive director. The wounds are "incredibly graphic and severe," Brinster said. "The skin is necrotic, meaning that he has been suffering with these wounds for some time without medical care." Tyler and another dog were supposedly burned with a blowtorch by someone in Paterson in an area where the refuge has rescued dogs from fighting, Brinster said. Tyler is going through plasma transfusion and is on fluids to help him recover at Oradell Animal Hospital. The refuge has joined with Jersey Pits Rescue to help Tyler.
