DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA —A pair of convicted felons in Desert Hot Springs were allegedly caught with rifles, body armor and ammunition, authorities said Thursday. Sandra Ponce, 58, and Ronald Solarzano, 42, were each arrested Wednesday on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Solarzano was additionally arrested for allegedly possessing body armor and collapsible batons. The two documented gang members were booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio, but bail information was not immediately available. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force served a warrant at the pair's residence in the 66000 block of Sixth Street about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators alleged that a 12-gauge shotgun and a .30-caliber rifle with an unspecified quantity of ammo were seized, as well as five sets of body armor.
