Press release from Portland Public Schools:
April 4, 2022
Students at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School enjoyed a dance party and a few rounds of tug-of-war Friday afternoon with three special guests.
Blaze and the BlazerDancers put an exclamation mark on a week of Blazermania that began March 26 when the team welcomed about 400 King students, teachers and their families to a game at Moda Center.
"We really appreciate the Blazers and their support for our school," said Principal Teresa Seidel. "Many of our kids had never been to a Blazers game before. We couldn't be more grateful."
When Blaze joined in on a game of tug-of-war on Friday and judged a dance contest that pitted students against the BlazerDancers. The dancers got a nice round of applause. But Blaze served as judge and gave the students a big W.
The Blazers have been working with the school after vandalism, racist hate speech and graffiti were discovered there in late February, at the end of Black History Month.
