BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso last week called for the police to step up speeding enforcement on 79th Street. He was responding to residents' concerns about speeders. This was during a discussion over pathways along the street. "We have to figure out a safe way to cross 79th Street one way or the other," Mayor Gary Grasso said at last week's Village Board meeting. In the meantime, he asked the police chief to have officers start ticketing 79th Street speeders, even if they are residents. "We need to start sending a message that people have to slow down on 79th Street," Grasso said. "We have some pretty strong testimony, if you will, that there is a speed problem there." Earlier in the meeting, residents complained about speeders on the street. "The speed limit there is 40. Let's face it, no one is traveling 40 there, probably even going as much as 50," said Margaret Jeka Marrs, who lives in the Chasemoor subdivision. "I wear a red vest when I walk there."
