TROY, MI — A 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection to a Troy liquor store robbery after his mom called police when she found him with a "large sum of money" that he shouldn't have had, police said.
An employee at the Capitol Wine and Liquor at 6037 Rochester Rd told police that on March 29 at 5:38 p.m., a young boy came into the store, approached the register and demanded she "empty the register," police said.
Although the robber did not produce a weapon, he had his right hand in his hoodie pocket, police said. After getting the money, the robber ran away from the store.
Several hours later, a mother called police and told them her son was acting strangely, and had a large sum of money he should not have, police said.
Officers went to the residence and talked with the 14-year-old boy, who admitted to robbing the liquor store earlier in the evening, police said. He was placed in the Troy Police Lock-Up facility.
