Newark Animal Shelter Ends Quarantine After Dog Found Deceased

NEWARK, NJ — The Associated Humane Societies animal shelter in Newark has ended a precautionary quarantine and will begin normal operations immediately, a spokesperson said Friday. A dog was recently found deceased at the busy shelter, which serves several towns in North Jersey. The deceased animal was sent out for a necropsy, and shelter staff quarantined the surrounding area in the meanwhile. He wrote: "We have received the final report from Cornell University on the canine that passed away. The necropsy showed he had Mycoplasma Cynos which caused pneumonia and ultimately the death of the dog. Our veterinarian has informed me that this is not contagious to humans.
