DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO — Firefighters were battling a brush fire that broke out Monday in northwest Douglas County. The fire spread more than 460 acres southeast of Chatfield State Park, but as of 5 p.m., fire officials said the blaze was 100 percent contained. No homes or buildings were damaged and no injuries were reported, officials said. Investigators said an electrical malfunction on a power pole caused the fire. Evacuation orders were issued for the BackCountry Subdivision and trails in the south region of Highlands Ranch. People evacuating from the BackCountry subdivision were asked to meet at Thunderridge High School, and stay in their vehicles. The Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility was also evacuated. South Metro Fire Rescue and other agencies battled the fire with ground crews, a helicopter, two large air tankers, two small air tankers and a plane. The fire started around 10 a.m. between Highlands Ranch and Louviers, and began spreading rapidly around 10:45 a.m., officials said. As of 12:30 p.m., the fire was 60 percent contained, fire officials said. This is a map of the #Chatridge2Fire with imagery provided by @COEmergency Multi Mission Airplane.
