Nighttime COVID Street Closures Planned For Newark's East Ward

NEWARK, NJ — Newark officials will close streets leading into the East Ward of the city on Friday and Saturday nights in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus. According to the Newark Public Safety Department, the street closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. "Residents who live in the affected area, namely zip code 07105, will be allowed to travel to address essential needs," officials said. "Proof of area residency or proof that an essential need is being addressed will be required." There is currently a 9 p.m. weekday and 10 p.m. weekend curfew in effect for the following areas of the city: In 07104, the boundaries are 7th Avenue to 2nd Avenue and from Broadway to Clifton AvenueIn 07105, this is the entire area, not including the airport or the highwaysIn 07107, the boundaries are 3rd Avenue North to Berkley Avenue.
