Description
Interstate 70 has closed from Golden to the Eisenhower Tunnel as snowfall continues to cause dangerous conditions on the highway, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced.
I-70 has closed from mile marker 215 to marker 259, officials said. There is no estimated time for when the highway will reopen.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for many Colorado regions, and storm alerts have been issued for the high country.
Total accumulations of up to 30 inches of snow could fall in some mountain regions, particularly the northwest facing slopes, weather officials said.
"Strong gusty alpine winds up to 60 mph will create blowing and drifting snow and low visibilities. Travel will be difficult to impossible. Wind chill temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees below zero are expected," a Hazardous Weather Outlook read. "All the snow and wind will be increasing avalanche danger, be sure to check with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center for the latest forecasts and statements."
