JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — Jeffco Public Schools will move all classes online, district officials announced Thursday. For Grades 6-12, remote learning will begin Monday and continue until winter break, and Grades K-5 will begin remote learning Nov. 30 and also continue until the winter break. Douglas County School District also announced Thursday a shift to 100 percent online learning. The district will move all classes online Nov. 30. Previously, only middle and high school students were scheduled to move to 100 percent remote learning in Jeffco Public Schools, but as coronavirus cases continue to increase in the county, officials said the district is at risk of being overwhelmed. "Simply put, we've now reached the point at which the benefits of in-person learning are outweighed by the disruption caused by abrupt transitions to quarantines and by the risk of COVID-19 exposures within our buildings," the district said in a statement. Jefferson County has shifted to 'Level Orange' on Colorado's COVID-19 Dial. "Future quarantine activity is likely to increase and send more of our schools into 24-48 hour closures or transitions to full remote learning on short notice," the school district said in a letter. "The growth in positive cases overall increases the risk that we'll have more incidents of transmission within schools." Don't miss the latest news updates in Colorado.
