Description
JESSUP, MD — Construction will begin Monday in Jessup to improve Guilford Road between Vollmerhausen Road/Mary Lane and Carroll Heights Avenue in Jessup. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late January 2021.
The project calls for the widening of Guilford Road and the addition of a sidewalk and storm drain along the roadway. The pavement south of the crest of the hill on Guilford Road also will be raised to improve sight distance for motorists approaching the Vollmerhausen Road/Mary Lane intersection. Two bus stops with crosswalks and pedestrian signals will be installed at the northeast and northwest corners of the Vollmerhausen Road/Mary Lane intersection. The existing traffic signal at this intersection will also be modified to improve the operation of the intersection.
In addition to the improvements along Guilford Road, the tributary bridge on Mary Lane will be widened and the sidewalk on Mary Lane will be extended across the bridge, connecting sidewalk to the Guilford Road/Mary Lane intersection.
Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as Guilford Road will be closed to thru traffic from the intersection just north of Mary Lane up to, and including, driveways for 10035 and 10008 Guilford Road. Traffic will be detoured along Vollmerhausen Road and Murray Hill Road. The detour is expected to be lifted by mid-October 2020. At this time, the next phase of work will commence on Mary Lane, with one-way traffic only and a detour using Jones Road and Pine Road.
