In order to transition to a resilient, climate-smart, and inclusive food system the cost is significant but it is doable. We need all key stakeholders around the table to find the most feasible path forward. We are dedicating 2022 April ImpactNights™ to the challenge of food system transformation. If we collectively step back and rethink our food system, we can increase the likelihood of ensuring decent livelihoods for food producers, access to affordable healthy food for all, while safeguarding Earth’s natural resources. In order to accomplish this, we need to transition to a resilient, climate-smart, and inclusive food system. A recent report by CIAT and Bioversity International highlights the urgency of food system transformation. Not only out of compassion for the billions of vulnerable people around the world but because the cost of inaction is higher than the cost of transformation. Undoubtedly, the price tag is significant: $1.3 trillion a year over the next three decades. That's 15% of the annual $9 trillion spent on food globally. Based on extensive evidence around savings and income improvements associated with efficiency and resiliency measures in our food system, we are optimistic that we can do this.
