The need to bring performing arts back to public space in a COVID-safe format inspired the transformation of an 18-foot box truck into an accessible, adaptable and easily transportable stage. This summer and fall, Omaha Mobile Stage will be in dozens of Omaha neighborhoods to provide free community-driven and family-friendly entertainment and arts enrichment.
By working in partnership with a diverse range of public spaces, local performers and arts nonprofits, OMS programming responds to the needs and culture of Omaha’s unique neighborhoods. During “Season One: Gatherings,” OMS will co-produce events with its community partners, and revive a city-wide youth talent show modeled after the beloved Good Fellows Show Wagon.
OMS is a direct response to a suite of cultural, social and economic problems that have roots in the pandemic. OMS is a prototype for a new model of outdoor venue—providing a fun and flexible, but safe and serene, place for communities to re-engage with each other, reactivate public spaces, and reanimate social, creative and economic life in the city.
