CREW Iowa's May luncheon will focus on legislative updates from the 2022 Iowa legislative session impacting commercial real estate. We are pleased to welcome Jenny Dorman, Assistant Legislative Counsel with Carney Appleby Law, to our monthly luncheon in May to provide an update on the 2022 Iowa legislative session outcomes impacting commercial real estate. About the Presenter: Jenny Dorman, Assistant Legislative Counsel, Carney Appleby Law Jenny has always had a passion for the law, you might say it was in her blood, as her mother, father, older sister and brother-in-law are all attorneys, and her youngest brother is currently in his final year at Drake Law School, so her ties run deep in the legal profession. Jenny graduated from Drake Law School in May 2017 with a certificate in Legislative Practice. While attending Drake Law School, Jenny participated in Drake Law’s Legislative Practice Program, working as a legal intern in the House of Representatives in the 2016 session, and legislative research intern for the Senate Majority Caucus staff during the 2017 session. Prior to attending law school, Jenny attended Truman State University, where she received a full-tuition athletic scholarship to play women’s basketball, Jenny was a four-year letter winner and four-year member of the MIAA scholar-athlete honor roll. Jenny graduated with a degree in history and minor in sociology. Jenny Dorman was admitted to the Iowa Bar in the fall of 2017 and joined Carney Appleby Law as an associate in Government Affairs in December of that year. Jenny’ s primary area of practice is government lobbying, regulatory affairs and administrative law. The 2022 session marks her 5th Session with Carney & Appleby’s Lobbying & Government Affairs team, and 7th consecutive Session at the Iowa Capitol. Following an extraordinarily successful 2020 Legislative Session for the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA), Jenny was awarded the 2020 IVMA President’s Award. Jenny received this award for her exceptional contributions to the field of Veterinary Medicine in her role as Assistant Legislative Counsel for the IVMA. These contributions included Jenny’s instrumental role in drafting and passing legislation that established and fully funded Iowa’s Rural Veterinary Loan Repayment Program, as well as helping lead the coalition that successfully advocated for needed reforms that strengthened Iowa’s Animal Cruelty Statutes. Jenny is an active member of the National Association of Bar Executives Government Practice Section and the Iowa State Bar Association. Each year Jenny, along with the rest of the Carney & Appleby legislative team, provide countless legislative updates, presentations and Continuing Education courses to clients and member associations on Iowa’s Legislative Landscape. Outside the Office, Jenny enjoys spending time friends, family and her husband Jake. Jake, although not a lawyer, is a former Iowa State Representative, who now works as a fellow lobbyist, so not far off. Together they enjoy traveling, watching Hawkeye Sports, utilizing their new Covid addition home gym, and playing with their incredibly energetic and lovable 95 lb. black lab, Neptune.
