HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Residents and commercial users of the Alpha Ridge Landfill are reminded that masks must be worn at all times when visiting the facility in Marriottsville. Those not complying with mandatory mask wearing will not be allowed access to the landfill, officials noted Friday. The landfill is operating with normal hours but should only be used by residents who do not have curbside collection service or who cannot wait until the county's state of emergency is lifted. Saturdays are typically busy and residents are urged to avoid unnecessary trips. "Our landfill employees interact with hundreds of residents each day, and it is our collective responsibility as a community to keep one another safe with the simple act of wearing a mask," Howard County Executive Clavin Ball. "We're incredibly grateful to our employees who have continued to work throughout this year to keep this essential service accessible for residents, and we must keep them safe. This is non-negotiable. If you must visit Alpha Ridge Landfill, you must be wearing your mask at all times – including when checking in and unloading. Visitors should also be mindful of keeping their distance from others. We're in a serious situation with community spread and every action matters."
