JOB SUMMARY: The Mechanic’s Helper will assist mechanics in performing maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment. Mercury/Mercruiser Training will be available. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Helps mechanic perform maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups and oil changes, checks tires and brakes, replaces spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks. Assists mechanic with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights. Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location. Maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment. Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order. Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of vehicle repair a plus. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to use power and hand tools. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read service and repair manuals. Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Related experience preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time. ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY: Punctual to work; has good attendance; uses good judgment. Attends meetings when directed; follows company policies/goals. Understands need for adhering to set schedules and deadlines. Leaves for/returns from breaks on time. Punches out/in when leaving yard during breaks. Is always at assigned vessel or “on‐task” except during break periods. COMMUNICATION: Uses correct language; speaks clearly; listens. Greets clients; is respectful; is courteous; has acceptable attitude. Expresses ideas and thoughts well verbally; exhibits good listening and comprehension. Speaks politely and respectfully with all members of the organization. Deals directly with co‐workers to resolve misunderstandings; does not gossip or complain. Follows‐up quickly and completely; keeps management informed of situations and outcomes.
