FARMINGDALE, NY — At a Nassau County IDA public hearing last week, an affordable apartment project in Farmingdale got the go-ahead. Sterling Green at Farmingdale's application for tax breaks for the 71-unit project was approved on March 29. The apartments will be built at 860 to 906 Fulton Street, currently the site of single-family homes. The units will be one, two and three-bedroom apartments, all designated as "affordable housing," with rents determined by percentage of area median income. Potential tenants who meet income requirements will be chosen by a lottery. The developer, D & F Development, based in Levittown, told Newsday that construction could begin as soon as next month and is expected to last two years. An attorney for Peter Florey, a principal with D & F Development, said at the public hearing that the project is "sorely needed by the village and the county and has the full support of the mayor," Farmingdale Village Ralph Ekstrand.
