EAST MEADOW, NY — Kasey Cheswick, a member of Ladder Company 2 in the East Meadow Fire Department, was recently bestowed the "Americanism Award" by the American Legion Post 1711 of Levittown for her dedication and commitment to the community.
From an early age, Cheswick has had strong desire to give back to her community and has been actively involved in several organizations, including the Girls Scouts and as a member of the EMFD's junior firefighter program. Following in the footsteps of her father, Assistant Chief Peter Cheswick, she joined EMFD's Ladder Company 2.
Upon her completion as a probationary firefighter, she took the extra step and completed her certification as an emergency medical technician. Giving back to the Girl Scouts, Cheswick made a presentation on fire safety to the members of her former troop.
Cheswick, a W. Tresper Clarke High School graduate, was inducted into the National Honor Society and is fluent in American Sign Language, a skill she has utilized at fire scenes and at emergency medical incidents. She recently graduated from Nassau Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice.
The East Meadow Fire Department, which covers East Meadow and parts of Levittown and Westbury, is always looking for new members to join their ranks as firefighters or emergency medical personnel; no experience is necessary. The fire department provides the training required.
