Click here to learn more. Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo: In support of Ukraine and its people, Buffalo has suspended its sister city status with Russia's Tver. In agreement with the Buffalo Common Council, Mayor Byron Brown suspended the relationship at the request of the Ukrainian General Consulate. As per the executive order, the relationship between Buffalo and Tver will resume once the Russian military withdraws from Ukraine. (Spectrum News)Effective May 1, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System will no longer charge fines for overdue materials. According to reports, the library system has already zeroed out all outstanding overdue daily fines, as well as hold and unclaimed pick-up fees. "There's anecdotal evidence, as well as some scientific evidence, that the fines don't really do a good job of getting people to bring books back on time, but they do keep people from patronizing the libraries," said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. "So, working with the library system, we're announcing we're getting rid of the fine system for everyone." (Buffalo News)A Buffalo man is facing charges in an alleged attempted purse snatching that seriously injured an 80-year-old woman. On Tuesday evening, officers with the Cheektowaga Police Department were called to the parking lot of a Tops Market for the incident. A witness stated they saw a man in a white Jeep pulling on the woman's purse handles; as the woman held onto her purse handles, she was dragged by the moving vehicle.
