DANBURY, CT — City Councilman Farley Santos announced his candidacy for state representative in the 109th district on Monday. "Our entire community and our state face critical challenges that will affect our neighbors, our children and hard-working families, our seniors, and small businesses. We need leadership in Hartford that understands the unique challenges facing our community and how we can best address them to ensure a bright and prosperous future for everyone," Santos said in a statement. Describing himself as a "near lifelong resident of Danbury," Democrat Santos is a product of the city's public schools and a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical High School. He was first named to the Danbury City Council representing the 4th Ward in 2019, having previously served on the Danbury Board of Education. Santos currently serves as president of the Danbury Police Activities League. Santos has his eye on the seat currently held by state Rep. David Arconti, who last month announced will not be seeking re-election. Arconti praised Santos in a news release, saying the councilman "has the ideal experience to serve Danbury as State Representative. He has served on the Danbury Board of Education and City Council which gives him a unique skill set to be an effective legislator on day one. His deep knowledge of the district and the issues facing its residents are unmatched. No one will work harder for Danbury." Professionally, Santos is vice president and community development manager and bank ambassador for the Savings Bank of Danbury.
