MERCER COUNTY, NJ – Do you have unused prescription drugs in your medicine cabinet? Here's your chance to dispose of them safely. National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday, April 30, and Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler is organizing the opportunity to dispose of any unused and expired prescription drugs. The goal is to help residents to rid their medicine cabinets of opioid painkillers, in addition to any other unneeded prescription medications. Mercer County residents can quickly drop off unused and expired prescription pills by bringing them to the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street, Trenton, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. "Include your medicine cabinet on your spring cleaning list, and gather up any unused or expired prescriptions, especially dangerous opioid painkillers," Kemler said. "More and more, accidental use, abuse, and addiction can too easily begin straight from your medicine chest." Last fall, residents disposed of over 150 pounds of unused or expired drugs at the disposal event. This spring's disposal event will also collect vape pens and other e-cigarette devices only after batteries are removed earlier. No syringes, sharp instruments, liquid medications, or solutions will be accepted. The Mercer County Sheriff's Office is conducting the program with the assistance of the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
