March 31, 2022
CORRECTION (March 31, 2022, 3:45 p.m.): Shani Harris has been charged with attempted first degree murder, not murder in perpetration of a crime as it was originally reported. Harris was initially charged with murder in perpetration of a crime due to a clerical error, which has since been corrected.
-----
Shani Harris, 20 of Knoxville, Tennessee, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and attempted aggravated robbery. Harris was charged as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Jaqwan Gillette.
The investigation led by the Knoxville Police Department Violent Crimes Unit revealed that on the night of March 28, 2022, two cars entered the parking lot of the Dollar General on Sutherland Avenue to conduct a marijuana transaction. Harris and Gillette then fired upon another involved party, who returned gunfire. Gillette was struck in the exchange of gunfire.
Harris has been charged with attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and vandalism. She was booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on those charges just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The investigation continues.
