Rise and shine, Sacramento! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started off right. First, today's weather: Hot. High: 92 Low: 56. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Police suspect five shooters were responsible for the carnage in Sacramento over the weekend, and the gunfight may have been a shootout between rivals that caught bystanders in the crossfire. As investigators identify the shooters and guns involved, that number may climb, police said. The shooting early Sunday in Sacramento's crowded entertainment district left six people dead and 12 wounded. (Sacramento Patch) Two days after the mass shooting in downtown Sacramento, a man says his daughter is alive today because a homeless man shielded her from the gunfire. Tom Orosco was picking up his daughter and her three friends downtown just after 2 a.m. Sunday when he heard the gunfire and chaos. He searched frantically as the horrific scene unfolded. What he didn't know was that all four young women — whose identities he is protecting — were huddled and pulled into a tight alcove by a homeless man named Tim. Now, the family is trying to track him down again, offering a hand up for his heroic act. The family plans to get Tim a phone and bring him food and supplies weekly. (CBS Sacramento)An employee at Raging Waters in Sacramento was hospitalized after falling into an empty pool at the water park Tuesday, fire personnel said. Fire crews rescued the employee from the bottom of the pool, and the employee is stable at a hospital, the Fire Department said. Raging Waters was not open to the public at the time of the incident. The park opens for the summer on May 21, according to its website. (Sacramento Bee via MSN)The Sacramento City Council was scheduled to consider placing an ordinance on the November ballot that could outlaw homeless encampments on public property and require the city to approve thousands of homeless shelter spaces. The proposed ordinance is called the Emergency Shelter and Enforcement Act of 2022. It would make public camping illegal if a person rejects the offer of an available emergency shelter space. The ordinance has the backing of Mayor Darrell Steinberg, who called it an "imperfect" compromise. The city published details about the ordinance late Tuesday afternoon. (Capital Public Radio News)Folsom police arrested a Sacramento man on charges of attempted murder and aggravated kidnapping following a pursuit Sunday that began in Folsom and led all the way to Colfax, according to the Folsom Police Department. Jacob Edward Remly, 22, was booked into Sacramento County Jail after multiple agencies assisted with his apprehension. Family members of an 18-year-old woman called police about a possible domestic dispute between their relative and Remly at a Folsom apartment complex. Police said that they saw a white Dodge sedan, driven by Remly, leaving the parking lot with the victim inside the vehicle. The vehicle was finally disabled by spike strips on Highway 80 near Colfax.
