Press release from the City of Louisville: April 4, 2022 The community event is part of the new 'Arts in Neighborhoods' initiative Louisville – Councilwoman Nicole George (D-21) and the Fund for the Arts hosted a press conference at the Little Loomhouse on Monday, April 4, to announce plans for the South Louisville Art Crawl. The Art Crawl will showcase the unique artists and businesses all over South Louisville, and it's the perfect way to wrap up Spring Break. "District 21 is a vibrant arts and cultural community," said Councilwoman George (D-21). "As part of the Fund for the Arts' movement, this Art Crawl is the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on the diverse artists and businesses we have in South Louisville." The free trolley tours will make several stops featuring businesses and artists in South Louisville from 2:00-4:30 p.m., then everyone is encouraged to grab dinner and enjoy live entertainment from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Colonial Gardens. Finally, Kentucky Shakespeare's free performance of Julius Caesar will start at 6:30 p.m. in Iroquois Park. This Art Crawl is part of a series of events coordinated by Fund for the Arts for its new 'Arts in Neighborhoods' initiative, which aims to celebrate art and artists that make up our unique Louisville neighborhoods. Each event or project in this initiative will reflect the true character of each neighborhood. "Arts in Neighborhoods events are unique celebrations of the people and communities that make up our entire city," said Andre Kimo Stone Guess, Fund for the Arts President and CEO. "The South Louisville Arts Crawl is so exciting to us because so many staples of this community are involved, like Thang Long Grocery, Americana Community Center, Sunergos Coffee, The Rosewater Bookstore, Caribbean Café and Colonial Gardens restaurants. Participants in the crawl get to explore their community, experiencing and taking part in art that ranges from Shakespeare to Cuban trumpet to traditional Appalachian traditions. We can't wait to see everyone out, celebrating art that's a part of all our lives." The following groups are sponsoring the Art Crawl: Fund for the Arts, Southwest Dream Team, Iroquois Neighborhood Association, Beechmont Neighborhood Association, The Little Loomhouse, Kentucky Shakespeare, and KRM. "As someone who grew up in South Louisville, I'm excited for this Art Crawl event to showcase the diversity of talent and businesses located here," said Michelle Amos, Executive Director of the Little Loomhouse. "And having our organization be a part of planning the event is a bonus!"
